Reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and helps promote the natural functions of the body. Reflexology involves focusing on reflex points and areas in the feet, hands and ears that are believed to correspond to other parts of the body. This bodywork involves application of trained pressure to the reflex points and zones to relieve areas of congestion. Sometimes reflexology is referred to as zone therapy.
Reflexology is an ancient form of therapy believed to have its origins in Chinese medicine some 5000 years ago. It is documented that many civilization have practiced some form of reflexology. Evidence documents this form of therapy on four continents: Asia, Europe, Africa and North America.
Reflexology can be traced to ancient Egypt as evidenced by inscriptions found in the physician’s tomb at Saqqara in Egypt. The translation of the hieroglyphics: "Don’t hurt me." The practitioner’s reply:- " I shall act so you praise me. "
